Static Ads: Which Layouts Stay Live Longest in 932 Meta Ads, With Real Examples (2026)
A static ad is one still image. In 932 live Meta static ads, plain offers and product shots ran longest and phone photos shortest. Real examples and what to make first.

A static ad is a single still image with your copy and a button around it; on Meta it's the image option under Single image or video. We sorted 932 live static ads from Meta's Ad Library by layout, and the ones running longest stated the offer or the product plainly (big offers: median 186 days), while the most common static, a phone photo with no text, had the shortest median at 52 days. So build your first static around the one thing you can state, and treat phone photos as tests you'll replace.

Every ad in AdMakeAI's Top Ads has a Remix button that rebuilds the layout around your product photo in about 30 seconds.

Meta has no format called static. In Ads Manager you pick Single image or video and upload one image; the Ads Guide calls it Image. The opposite is a dynamic ad, now called an Advantage+ catalog ad, which fills in products from your catalog for each person. A static shows everyone the same picture. Sizes are in our Meta image size guide.
One catch before you design anything: the image you upload isn't always the one people see. Advantage+ creative can expand, rewrite, animate or reformat a single-image ad, and some of those options may be on by default.

As uploaded
“Some enhancements may be turned on by default, but you can turn them off at any time.”
The four tabs that follow are what Meta can do to this square before anyone sees it.
For a designed static we turn these off, because the layout is the part you designed. Most switch off in the ad's Advantage+ creative settings; Meta says some only switch off in Advanced preview.
What 932 live static ads look like
With the format settled, the real decision is what goes on the image. On October 9, 2026 we pulled 932 live single-image ads from the Ad Library across 46 product and software searches and labeled each one by layout. The Library's own media filter split them almost cleanly: Images returned photos with no text, and Memes returned designed ads with text on them.

If you browse the Ad Library for ideas, use the Memes filter; that's where the designed statics are. Among those, three layouts made up 43%: the big offer, a product shot with a headline, and feature callouts. Among photos, phone shots were the biggest group by far, 249 of 594.
Plain offers and product shots stayed up longest
Counting layouts shows what's popular; how long each one has stayed live says more about what advertisers keep. Here are the 13 layouts with at least 15 ads, by median days running.

Median days running, by layout

Big offer: 64 ads from 48 advertisers, median 186 days, 81% running 90+ days.
Days running isn't results. The Library shows start dates, not sales, and every ad here was still live, so these numbers compare layouts with each other and say nothing about how long ads usually last. But an advertiser who keeps paying for the same image for six months has seen enough to keep it.
The layouts at the top share one trait: in a single look you know what's sold and why to buy it, whether that's a price, the product with one claim or a magazine's name. Layouts that borrow the look of content sat lower. Native posts, the notes-app and email-reply screenshots, were the youngest designed layout, with 27% started in the last 30 days. They could be new or they could burn out fast; one snapshot can't tell those apart.
Why phone photos sit at the bottom
The shortest bar belongs to the most common static of all, so it's worth knowing who runs them. Half of the 594 photo-only ads came from Pages whose name doesn't match the store they link to: parenting Pages, vet-sounding names, blogs.

63% running 90+ days
39% running 90+ days
Phone photos were short-lived on both: median 39 days on store-named Pages, 52 on differently named ones.
Those Pages' photo-only ads were younger, a median of 60 days against 135 on Pages named after the store. The format matters as much as the Page, though. Phone photos were short-lived on store-named Pages too, while those Pages' product shots with no headline ran a median of 225 days.
Our read: phone photos are cheap, so they get made in batches, run as tests and swapped out. The images advertisers keep paying for are the plain product and offer ones. Make phone photos if they suit your product, but have the next one ready within about two months, which is where their median sat. Our guide on when a running ad stops working covers the signs.
Which static to make first, by what you have
That leaves the practical choice. Start from the one thing you can put on the image and pick the layout that states it. Each of these has been live for months and shows one move worth copying.

Three of these layouts come with rules. Before and after for cosmetic or weight-loss products has to target 18+ under Meta's health and wellness standard, which stopped banning side-by-side weight-loss comparisons on July 22, 2026; the FTC still expects you to disclose typical results. Review cards need real reviewers, and the FTC's 2024 rule covers AI-written ones too (more in the testimonial ads guide). Native posts can look like Notes, email or a text thread, but not a Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp screen, which Meta's IP standard bans.
If you have a product photo and no designer, the free AI ad maker turns it into a Meta-ready static in about 30 seconds; 30 free credits, no card. There's more on building these without a designer.
Static ads FAQ
What is a static ad?
One still image with your copy and a button around it, with no motion or swiping. On Meta you create it under Single image or video.
What is the difference between static and dynamic ads?
A static ad shows everyone the same image. On Meta, dynamic ads are now Advantage+ catalog ads, which fill in products from your catalog for each person.
What are the types of Facebook ads?
Meta's formats today are Single image or video, Carousel and Collection, plus Flexible, which Meta is phasing out. Offer ads and Sponsored Stories no longer exist.
Are static ads better than video ads?
No public data settles it. In a separate pull the same day, live single-image and video ads had similar median run lengths, 136 and 145 days.
What size should a static ad be?
1440 x 1800 (4:5) for Feed and 1440 x 2560 (9:16) for Stories and Reels, JPG or PNG up to 30 MB. About half the designed ads in our sample were still square. More on how often live ads use 4:5.
Is there still a 20% text rule on Facebook ads?
No, Meta dropped it in September 2020. What's left is the Stories and Reels safe zone: keep text out of the top 14%, bottom 35% and side 6%. The free safe-zone checker draws it on your file.
Before you publish your first static
- 1Name the one thing you can state: a price, a product claim, a review, a result.
- 2Pick the layout that states it, and keep it to one claim that reads on a phone.
- 3Export 1440 x 1800 for Feed and 1440 x 2560 for Stories and Reels, with text inside the safe zone.
- 4In Advantage+ creative and Advanced preview, turn off anything that would change the layout.
- 5Before and after: 18+ targeting. Reviews: real reviewers only. Screenshots: no fake Meta screens.
- 6If it's a phone photo, have its replacement ready within about two months.
How we got this
Active US single-image ads from Meta's Ad Library, pulled October 9, 2026: 80 keyword searches across 46 terms with the Memes and Images filters, first results page each, 932 ads from 621 advertisers. One reviewer labeled every image by eye, using the largest element when two layouts fit. Days running counts from the start date and isn't spend or results; stopped ads aren't in the sample (one vendor's count of 2.9M stopped Meta ads found a 3-day median). Multi-version and catalog ads are excluded, so designed statics are undercounted. A Page counts as not named after the store when its name and the landing domain share no word, checked by hand. Meta's wording checked October 10, 2026.
